Tim and Sue Ball’s house seems to hug the hill that it is not so much built upon, but into. While only one storey rises above the highest point of ground, Tim, an architect, cut away the earth on one side to build down into it, creating a lower floor within the building and a series of terraces and decks outside. The couple found the land in July 2006 and with impressive efficiency, had moved in by December the following year.
