Clare Barham's Top 3 gardens in Kent, Surrey and Sussex

We ask Clare Barham of Hole Park to name her three favourite gardens in Kent, Surrey and Sussex

Hole Park, Rolvenden

My husband would be most upset if I did not include our own beautiful gardens, but they would be my number one anyway. The sixteen acres reflect the four generations of his family who have loved these gardens for over a century. They are at their best between April and June and again, for a finale of autumn colours, in October. Hole Park also hosts the Wealden Times Midsummer Fair, and entry to the garden is included with your fair entry ticket. www.holepark.com

Chevening, near Sevenoaks

The official residence of the Foreign Secretary and, for that reason, it is not often open to the public. Set around a huge ornamental lake which provides the perfect backdrop to this stunning house, sweeping alleys of hornbeam run off into the countryside, encouraging visitors to see what lies beyond. It's the ideal place to let your children run free too.www.cheveninghouse.com

Balmoral, Benenden

The Molesworths' delightful garden in Benenden shows what can be achieved by two really dedicated gardeners. Open a couple of times a year and for groups by appointment. www.thepottingshedholidaylet.com
